Job Summary

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is seeking applications for a Research Laboratory Specialist Senior.  This is a term limited, 8 month position.

Responsibilities*

  • Research activities that focus on analysis of DNA sequencing data provided by the Sponsor, which is derived from microbial communities including performing annotation of metabolic pathways and virulence factors.
  • Identify list of potential growth requirements for the organisms and develop hypotheses regarding putative inter-microbial interactions.
  • Visualize and interpret data; prepare results for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Required Qualifications*

PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, or bioinformatics with research experience; demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications; demonstrated expertise with microbial metabolism and/or physiology and bioinformatics. Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff with the ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative environment. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience conducting bioinformatics analysis of metagenomic data. Knowledge and experience in the annotation of genes and metabolic pathways, especially for biosynthesis of toxins, transport of nutrients, and biosynthesis of fatty acids.
