With Our Planet, Our Health, we want to invest in high-quality, transdisciplinary programmes of research that investigate novel aspects of – and build evidence for – how complex changes in our environment affect our health. Supported proposals will consider the interplay between different environments (biological, physical, economic, social and natural), drive collaborative research, and ultimately lead to outputs with a significant impact on our health.
San Francisco, CA – uBiome, the leading microbial genomics company, is offering talented researchers with big ideas a grant of up to $100,000 of microbiome sampling kits and full 16S laboratory analysis. The Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases program supports research on the ecological, evolutionary, and socio-ecological principles and processes that influence the transmission dynamics of infectious diseases. The central theme of submitted projects must be quantitative or computational understanding of pathogen transmission dynamics. The intent is discovery of principles of infectious disease transmission and testing mathematical or computational models that elucidate infectious disease systems.
Despite centuries of discovery, most of our planet's biodiversity remains unknown. The scale of the unknown diversity on Earth is especially troubling given the rapid and permanent loss of biodiversity across the globe. The goal of the Dimensions of Biodiversity campaign is to transform, by 2020, how we describe and understand the scope and role of life on Earth. This campaign promotes novel integrative approaches to fill the most substantial gaps in our understanding of the diversity of life on Earth.
