GS-15 Supervisory Health Scientist Administrator (Branch Chief) Opportunity at NIAID

Staff

Chief, Microbiology Review Branch-A

Scientific Review Program

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)

The Scientific Review Program (SRP) in the Division of Extramural Activities (DEA) is seeking a dynamic, motivated individual with strong leadership skills to serve as chief of the Microbiology Review Branch-A (MRB-A). SRP manages the peer review of grant applications and contract proposals submitted in response to NIAID-initiated requests for applications; program announcements; requests for proposals; Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contracts; and broad agency announcements. These initiatives address Institute-specific needs and announce funding opportunities that may be awarded as a research project (R01, R21) or program project (P) grant, cooperative agreement (U), research career development award (K), institutional training grant (T), conference grant or cooperative agreement (R13, U13), or contract (N01). SRP staff participate in initiative development, work to help formulate and guide peer review strategies to meet new or unusual requirements—most recently to effectively review applications proposing development of vaccines and therapeutics to address COVID-19 and potential future pandemics—and collaborate closely with NIAID’s extramural program divisions and the DEA Office of the Director. MRB-A manages the review of initiatives sponsored by the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and is one of four branches in SRP that include a second Microbiology Review Branch, an AIDS Review Branch, and an Immunology Review Branch, the latter of which manage the review of initiatives sponsored by the Division of AIDS and the Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation, respectively. The branch chief oversees up to 18 staff members that include the deputy chief, scientific review officers, and multiple review specialists and serves on an 11-person SRP management team alongside branch and deputy chiefs from the other SRP branches.
