Health Scientist Administrator (Scientific Review Officer)

Staff

Division of Extramural Activities

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is seeking talented and motivated individuals to serve as Scientific Review Officers (SROs) in the Scientific Review Program (SRP) of the Division of Extramural Activities (DEA). SRP consists of four review branches: the AIDS Review Branch; Microbiology Review Branches A and B; and Immunology Review Branch, which manage the peer review of grant applications and contract proposals submitted in response to NIAID initiatives. These initiatives address Institute-specific needs and announce funding opportunities that may be awarded as a research project (R01, R21) or program project (P) grant, cooperative agreement (U), research career development award (K), institutional training grant (T), conference grant or cooperative agreement (R13, U13), or contract (N01). SRP staff participate in initiative development, help formulate and guide peer review strategies to meet new or unusual requirements, and collaborate closely with NIAID’s extramural program divisions and the DEA Office of the Director.

As the Designated Federal Official (DFO) in peer review, the SRO assesses submitted applications and proposals for compliance with funding opportunity announcement (FOA) instructions and HHS, NIH, and NIAID policies; identifies the areas of science represented and recruits, assigns, instructs, and oversees experts who evaluate and identify the most meritorious submissions; and completes summary statements and technical evaluation reports that represent the results of a scientific review meeting to program, acquisitions, and grants management stakeholders. NIAID SROs have broad expertise in infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS, virology, bacteriology, parasitology and mycology and/or in immunology, allergy, and transplantation.

Interested candidates are encouraged to send a letter of interest and a curriculum vitae (CV) to Dr. Jennifer Meyers at jennifer.meyers@nih.gov.
