Dr. Sunstrum is the Chief of Infectious Diseases at Beaumont-Dearborn, the director of the Wayne County TB Clinic, and one of our clinical consultants for the State Tuberculosis Control Program.
As you may know, for more than two decades our state’s white-tailed deer population has been widely infected with M. bovis (especially in the Alpena region). Dr. Sunstrum has been central in monitoring and responding to this problem, including the clinical management of multiple infected hunters.
It’s a fascinating story involving clinical medicine, microbiology, public health and epidemiology, veterinary medicine, and the Department of Natural Resources.
